Claude API prices 2026: costs per model and per agent step, payment with Satispay

How much does the Claude API cost? There is no single price: you pay per million tokens, with one rate for the text you send (input) and a higher rate for what the model writes (output), with no subscription. The model makes the difference. Claude Sonnet 5, which we recommend for writing code and running agents, costs $2,00 / $10,00 per million tokens at Anthropic's list price and $1,40 / $7,00 on Kunavo; the price drops to $0,70 / $3,50 with Claude Haiku 4.5 and rises to $7,00 / $35,00 with Claude Fable 5.1, always 30% below the list price. In concrete terms: an agent step such as Claude Code on Sonnet 5 costs approximately $0,0434, and with $20 of balance you can pay for approximately 460. Top-ups can also be paid in euros, with Satispay, starting at $10. Prices checked on October 3, 2026.

Claude API pricing 2026, model by model

Importi in dollari per milione di token (MTok), prima l'input and poi l'output. Anthropic pubblica tutti i suoi prezzi in dollari (Anthropic, October 3, 2026). L'ultima colonna dice quanto costa un token letto dalla cache rispetto a un token di input normale.

Due cose saltano all'occhio. Su ogni riga l'output costa 5 volte l'input, quindi a pesare sul conto sono le risposte lunghe più delle domande lunghe. E sono le tariffe delle chiamate normali: per i lavori asincroni Anthropic ha la Batch API, che dimezza il prezzo di input and output (Anthropic, October 3, 2026), ma la tabella non ne tiene conto. Gli altri modelli, non solo Claude, sono nella pricing page.

Claude Sonnet: why you still see $3 / $15 online

Molte pagine indicano ancora $3 / $15 come prezzo di Sonnet. È il listino di Claude Sonnet 4.6, oppure l'aumento che Anthropic aveva annunciato per Sonnet 5 dal 1° settembre 2026 and poi cancellato: $2,00 / $10,00, nato come prezzo di lancio valido fino al 31 agosto, è diventato il prezzo standard (Anthropic, October 3, 2026). Claude Opus: the newest is also the least expensive

With Opus, the logic is reversed: Claude Opus 5.5 was released after Claude Opus 5 and costs less, $4,00 / $20,00 at list price versus $5,00 / $25,00. On Kunavo, Opus 5.5 costs $2,80 / $14,00, Opus 5 $3,50 / $17,50, and no other Opus version is cheaper than Opus 5.5. Caching also works in its favor: a cached token costs 5% of the input price on Opus 5.5 and 10% on Opus 5. Before moving up to Opus, however, try Sonnet 5: at $1,40 / $7,00 it still costs less, and Opus 5.5 is best reserved for tasks Sonnet cannot handle.

From price per million to the cost of one step

One million tokens is an abstract unit: what matters is how much each agent turn costs. Claude Code, Cline, or an agent you write yourself work in steps, and at each step they send the model instructions, session history, and the files they are working on, receiving an edit or a response in return. In the calculations below, one step is 25.000 input tokens and 1.200 output tokens, without caching:

What drives up the bill

• The tokenizer used by recent models. Da Claude 4.7 in poi, quindi anche Sonnet 5, Opus 5, Opus 5.5 and Fable, lo stesso testo viene diviso in circa il 30% di token in più rispetto a Sonnet 4.6 and ai modelli precedenti (Anthropic, October 3, 2026). • Italian is not English. • Responses cost 5 times as much as prompts. A limit with max_tokens and a prompt asking for concise responses reduce the more expensive component.
• Long sessions grow larger. Il contesto lungo in sé non ha sovrapprezzo: Anthropic addebita l'intera finestra da 1 milione di token dei modelli 4.6 and successivi alla tariffa standard (Anthropic, October 3, 2026), and Kunavo non applica sovrapprezzi per il contesto lungo su Claude. Però ogni step rimanda tutta la cronologia, quindi più la sessione si allunga, più costa ogni step. Per un compito nuovo conviene aprire una sessione nuova.

Prompt caching: where the real savings are

In agent loops, the biggest savings come not from the list-price discount but from the cache. Each step resends almost everything from the previous one, and the part already seen is charged as a cache read: 10% of the input price on most Claude models, il 2,5% su Claude Fable 5.1 e il 5% su Claude Opus 5.5. For example: if from the second step onward 20.000 of the 25.000 input tokens come from the cache, a step on Sonnet 5 goes from $0,0434 to $0,0182, and one on Opus 5.5 from $0,0868 to $0,0336.

La cache però va prima scritta. Anthropic fa pagare la scrittura 1,25 volte il prezzo di input se la cache dura 5 minuti and 2 volte se dura 1 ora (Anthropic, October 3, 2026); su Kunavo la scrittura costa 1,25× l'input. Il risparmio reale dipende da quanta parte dell'input riesci a riusare. Claude subscription or pay-as-you-go API?

People searching for Claude pricing often want to know how much Claude costs on claude.ai, not the API. These are separate charges, paid for in different ways:

What about Claude Code?

Claude Code addebita i token se lo colleghi a una chiave API, oppure consuma i limiti del tuo abbonamento (Claude Code documentation, October 3, 2026). Per farsi un'idea della spesa, Anthropic riporta sulle installazioni aziendali una media di circa $13 per sviluppatore per giorno di utilizzo and $150–250 per sviluppatore al mese, con il 90% degli utenti sotto i $30 per giorno attivo (Claude Code documentation, October 3, 2026). Sono medie di team aziendali, non la spesa di un singolo.

On Kunavo, with $20 you pay for approximately 460 steps on Sonnet 5 without caching, or about 23 tasks of 20 steps. If you work intermittently, with weeks of inactivity, the API key usually costs less, because you pay nothing when you are not using it. If Claude Code stays open all day, the subscription tends to offer better value, at least until you reach the limits.

L'indirizzo in ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL va scritto senza /v1. Per la chiave consigliamo ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN: Claude Code la manda nell'header Authorization: Bearer and la usa subito, mentre con ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, in modalità interattiva, ti chiede una volta di approvarla prima di preferirla all'abbonamento (Claude Code documentation, October 3, 2026). Dal lato di Kunavo vanno bene tutte and due: la chiave è accettata sia in Authorization: Bearer sia in x-api-key.

Le quattro righe sui modelli evitano sorprese. Se non imposti nulla, su Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise and sull'API di Anthropic Claude Code parte con Opus 5.5 come modello predefinito, and sull'API di Anthropic l'alias sonnet ora punta a Sonnet 5.5 (Claude Code documentation, October 3, 2026). Con queste righe il modello di partenza è Sonnet 5 and gli alias opus, sonnet and haiku puntano a modelli disponibili su Kunavo. Sonnet 5.5 su Kunavo non c'è ancora: senza la riga ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_SONNET_MODEL, /model sonnet, la fase di esecuzione di opusplan and i subagent impostati su model: sonnet chiederebbero Sonnet 5.5 and riceverebbero un 404. L'alias opus invece punta a Opus 5.5, che su Kunavo costa $2,80 / $14,00 ed è l'Opus più economico; serve Claude Code v2.1.280 o successivo, quindi se la tua versione è più vecchia aggiornala con claude update. Paying in euros, including with Satispay

Da Anthropic l'API ha prezzi in dollari and si paga con carta di credito o di debito; PayPal and gli altri processori di pagamento di terze parti non sono accettati (Anthropic help center e pricing page, October 3, 2026). I crediti API comprati da Anthropic scadono dopo un anno and non vengono rimborsati (Anthropic help center, October 3, 2026).

Kunavo incassa tramite Stripe. Il listino è in dollari, ma se paghi dall'Italia il checkout ti mostra la cifra in euro: il cambio include una commissione di conversione del 2–4% a carico tuo, cioè tra $0,20 and $0,40 su una ricarica da $10 (Stripe, Adaptive Pricing, October 3, 2026). How the balance works

• The balance covers API usage only: your code, Claude Code with a key, and other tools that use a key. It does not pay for Claude Pro or Max.

• Large refactors, stubborn bugs, long tasks: Claude Opus 5.5, $2,80 / $14,00, the most affordable Opus.
• The most difficult reasoning: Claude Fable 5.1, $7,00 / $35,00. It is the most expensive in the table, so save it for cases where the others are not enough.
