A practical guide for developers in Spain and Latin America who want to use the Claude API in production. Price difference compared with Anthropic directly, payments with local cards (and Pix in Brazil), latency from Madrid, São Paulo, and Buenos Aires, and GDPR considerations. Everything worth knowing before your first call.
First call in 5 seconds
Kunavo is compatible with the OpenAI wire protocol. If your code already uses the OpenAI SDK, migrating requires a one-line change in base_url. In Python:
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(
api_key="sk-kn-...",
base_url="https://api.kunavo.com/v1", # solo cambia esta línea
)
resp = client.chat.completions.create(
model="claude-sonnet-4-6",
messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Preséntate brevemente en español."}],
)
print(resp.choices[0].message.content)It’s identical in Node.js / TypeScript:
import OpenAI from "openai";
const client = new OpenAI({
apiKey: process.env.KUNAVO_API_KEY!,
baseURL: "https://api.kunavo.com/v1",
});
const resp = await client.chat.completions.create({
model: "claude-opus-4-7",
messages: [{ role: "user", content: "Resume este artículo en 3 viñetas." }],
});
console.log(resp.choices[0].message.content);Registration is free: top up from $10, pay only for what you use (pay-as-you-go), and your balance never expires—more than enough to test Claude Opus 4.7, Sonnet 4.6, and Haiku 4.5.
Price difference compared with Anthropic directly
Claude models on Kunavo are 30% lower than Anthropic’s official price. Claude Sonnet 4.6 costs $3.00 input / $15.00 output per million tokens directly—on Kunavo: $2.10 / $10.50, 30% less. With prompt caching, rereading the stable prefix is charged at 10% of the input price, that is, $0.21 per million tokens. Full prices for each model are at /pricing.
Latency from Spain and Latin America
Kunavo runs in a single US-East region (Ashburn, Virginia), behind an anycast edge that terminates TLS near you. The edge shortens the TLS handshake, not the trip to the United States: from Madrid, Mexico City, São Paulo, or Buenos Aires, round-trip time is dominated by the physical distance to the US East Coast, plus the model’s own inference time. Calling Anthropic directly takes exactly the same route.
Streaming responses arrive with the same time-to-first-token as upstream—without buffering or batching.
Payment methods—local cards, Pix
We use Stripe natively. Available methods by country:
- Spain: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link. Pay by Bank is not available: Kunavo checkout offers it only to buyers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Finland
- Mexico: Cards (including local Visa/Mastercard cards), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link
- Brazil: Cards, Pix
- Argentina / Chile / Colombia: International cards
- Apple Pay and Google Pay in all countries where Stripe supports them
Cash or voucher-based methods — OXXO (Mexico) and Boleto (Brazil) — are not available: they are not among the methods Stripe enables for our account. Mercado Pago and Bizum are not available either. In Brazil, the option is Pix, which does appear with the amount already in reais.
Prices are displayed in USD, but Stripe converts them to your currency on the payment page — this is how Pix charges in reais. SEPA Direct Debit is unavailable for a different reason: it is not enabled on our account, so it never appears at checkout. Any card issued in Spain works normally, including debit cards linked to your SEPA account; if you pay in dollars, your bank performs the conversion.
Minimum top-up: $10 USD. No subscription; it’s a prepaid wallet, and the balance never expires.
Taxes and invoicing
The standard checkout does not show VAT or ask for an intra-community VAT number, and an invoice showing VAT is not issued automatically; we also do not apply local LATAM taxes (consult your accountant about accounting for imported digital services). Your top-ups, with date, amount, and status, appear in your billing dashboard; if you need a receipt for your accounting records, email contact@kunavo.com.
GDPR, LGPD, and data residency
The routing logic runs in the gateway, in the single US-East region (Ashburn), not at the anycast edge, which only terminates TLS. Billing and account data are stored in a single primary database, with encrypted daily volume snapshots. We transmit requests to upstream providers — failover changes the provider, never the model — and those providers process prompt content under their own terms. Kunavo does not offer a data-processing agreement (DPA, Art. 28 GDPR), Zero Data Retention, or EU data residency: requests are processed in the United States and forwarded to upstream providers. If your team needs a DPA, ZDR, or EU data residency, contract directly with the model provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google enterprise terms).
