Claude API in Brazil — pricing, Pix, latency from São Paulo, IOF, and LGPD

A practical guide for Brazilian developers: 30% discount on Anthropic direct pricing depending on the model, payment via Pix and card, where latency from São Paulo comes from, IOF on international cards, invoices, and LGPD. Make your first call in 5 minutes.

A practical guide for Brazilian developers who want to run the Claude API in production. Price differences compared with Anthropic directly, payment by Pix and card, latency from São Paulo, LGPD, and tax invoices—everything that matters before your first call.

First call in 5 seconds

Kunavo is compatible with the OpenAI wire protocol. If your code already uses the OpenAI SDK, migrating requires a one-line change in base_url. In Python:

quickstart.py
from openai import OpenAI

client = OpenAI(
    api_key="sk-kn-...",
    base_url="https://api.kunavo.com/v1", # só essa linha muda
)

resp = client.chat.completions.create(
    model="claude-sonnet-4-6",
    messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Se apresente brevemente em português."}],
)
print(resp.choices[0].message.content)

It’s identical in Node.js / TypeScript:

quickstart.mjs
import OpenAI from "openai";

const client = new OpenAI({
  apiKey: process.env.KUNAVO_API_KEY!,
  baseURL: "https://api.kunavo.com/v1",
});

const resp = await client.chat.completions.create({
  model: "claude-opus-4-7",
  messages: [{ role: "user", content: "Resuma este artigo em 3 tópicos." }],
});
console.log(resp.choices[0].message.content);

Registration is free: top up from $10, pay only for what you use (pay-as-you-go), and your balance never expires—enough to thoroughly test Claude Opus 4.7, Sonnet 4.6, and Haiku 4.5.

Price difference vs. Anthropic directly

Claude models on Kunavo cost 30% less than Anthropic’s official prices, depending on the model. Claude Sonnet 4.6 costs $3,00 input / $15,00 output per 1M tokens directly from Anthropic—on Kunavo: $2,10 / $10,50 (30% less). With prompt caching, rereading the stable prefix is charged at 10% of the input price, or $0,21 per 1M tokens. Full prices for every model are at /pricing.

Latency from São Paulo / Rio

Kunavo runs in a single US-East region (Ashburn, Virginia), behind an anycast edge that terminates TLS near you. The edge shortens the TLS handshake, not the trip to the United States: from São Paulo, Rio, or Brasília, round-trip time is dominated by the physical distance to the US East Coast, plus the model’s own inference time. Calling Anthropic directly from Brazil follows exactly the same route.

Streaming responses arrive with the same time-to-first-token as upstream—without buffering or batching. This makes a big difference for latency-critical tasks (real-time customer support, conversational agents).

Payment—Pix and international cards

We use Stripe natively. For customers in Brazil:

  • Pix (instant payment, amount displayed in reais)—no international credit card required
  • International cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express
  • Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link

Boleto is not available, and the same applies to the domestic card networks Elo and Hipercard, which do not appear at our checkout. Cards issued in Brazil must be enabled for international purchases—if yours is declined, check this in your bank’s app or pay by Pix, which does not depend on it.

Prices are quoted in USD; Stripe converts them to BRL at checkout. The conversion uses Stripe’s exchange rate at that moment, which already includes a 2–4% conversion fee paid by the purchaser (Stripe Adaptive Pricing documentation, read on 2026-10-03). Minimum top-up: $10 USD. No subscription—it is a prepaid wallet, and the balance never expires.

IOF, taxes, and tax invoices

International credit card transactions are subject to IOF (currently 3.5%—check the current rate), as is Pix: according to Stripe, IOF applies when a customer in Brazil pays a foreign company and is added to the total in the bank app. The full Pix top-up process is in the guide to paying for the API with Pix. Kunavo does not issue Brazilian tax invoices or invoices; checkout does not generate a tax document. Your top-up history, including date, amount, and status, is available in your billing dashboard. If you need a receipt for accounting, write to contact@kunavo.com.

LGPD and data residency

Routing logic runs at the gateway in the single US-East region (Ashburn), not at the anycast edge, which only terminates TLS. Billing and account data are stored in a single primary database, with encrypted daily snapshots of the volume. We transmit requests to upstream providers—a failover switches providers, never models—and those providers process prompt content according to their own terms. Kunavo does not offer a data processing agreement (DPA), Zero Data Retention, or data residency outside the United States: requests are processed in the United States and forwarded to upstream providers. If your team needs a DPA, ZDR, or data residency in Brazil or the EU, contract directly with the model provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google enterprise terms).
