Veo 3 Costs — What a Clip Costs Through the API, Without a Subscription

German search results almost always stop at the subscription. Here is the other half — what a clip costs through the API — in numbers.

Veo 3 costs follow two paths: the subscription (Google AI Pro / Ultra with Flow credits) and the API, billed per clip. Through the API, on Kunavo, Veo 3.1 Lite costs $0.18+, Veo 3.1 Fast $0.36+, and Veo 3.1 Quality $1.60+ per clip at 720p — with no monthly fee and no Google Cloud project. Which path is cheaper comes down to a division: monthly fee ÷ price per clip = break-even in clips.

Anyone searching for Veo 3 pricing finds almost only subscription comparisons. That half of the answer is covered; the other — what it costs to pay clip by clip through the API — remains unanswered. This page fills it with numbers.

Two pricing models for Veo 3

PathBillingLimit
Subscription (Google AI Pro / Ultra, Flow)Fixed monthly fee + creditsThe month’s credits
API (Pay-as-you-go)Per clipNo monthly fee, no limit

Google changes subscription prices and credit amounts frequently, so we do not reproduce them here — check them on Google’s official page. For comparison, all you need is the division below.

Veo 3 API pricing — per clip and tier

This page reads the prices below from the model catalog: if the price changes, the table changes with it.

TierModel IDPer clipUse case
Veo 3.1 Liteveo-3-lite$0.18+Drafts, prompt refinement, high-volume testing
Veo 3.1 Fastveo-3$0.36+Normal results
Veo 3.1 Qualityveo-3-quality$1.60+Final version, hero shots

The “+” means “starting at”: the amount is the minimum price per clip at 720p, and higher resolutions may cost more. The model IDs remain those of the veo-3 family; the current generation from the table runs behind them. Billing is in US dollars, clip by clip, from a prepaid balance.

Break-even — monthly fee ÷ price per clip

Whether the subscription or API is cheaper depends on the number of clips per month. Convert the monthly fee to US dollars and divide it by the price of the tier you use — that is the break-even point. Below it, the API is cheaper; above it, month after month, the subscription is better value. As a benchmark: this is how many clips correspond to a $10 monthly fee.

TierPer clip$10 monthly fee ≈
Veo 3.1 Lite$0.18+about 55 clips
Veo 3.1 Fast$0.36+about 27 clips
Veo 3.1 Quality$1.60+about 6 clips

Multiply by the number of $10 units in your monthly fee to get your plan’s break-even point. One other number is worth considering: If the subscription credits cover fewer clips than the break-even point, the API is cheaper in every case. Anyone who works in Flow almost every day and uses up the credits every month is better off staying on the subscription — especially if they also use the plan’s other benefits. The AI video cost calculator calculates your own quantities and resolutions.

The biggest lever — mix tiers

The bill drops most when testing and the final version are handled separately. Refine the prompt with Veo 3.1 Lite as often as necessary, and render only the approved prompt with Veo 3.1 Quality. With 10 drafts and 1 final version, doing everything in Veo 3.1 Quality costs $17.60; moving the drafts to Veo 3.1 Lite costs $3.40. In the code, one word changes: the model name.

The call — focus only on the asynchronous part

Unlike text, video is an asynchronous job. POST /v1/videos first returns a job ID; then you poll GET /v1/videos/{id} until the status is completed or failed.

veo3.py
# Minimalbeispiel: einen Clip erzeugen und auf das Ergebnis warten.
# Kein Abo, kein Google-Cloud-Projekt — ein einziger Key.
import os, time, requests

KEY = os.environ["KUNAVO_API_KEY"]
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {KEY}"}

# 1. Einreichen — kommt sofort mit einer Job-ID zurück (Status "queued").
job = requests.post(
    "https://api.kunavo.com/v1/videos",
    headers=H,
    json={
        "model": "veo-3-lite", # Entwürfe mit Lite, die finale Fassung mit "veo-3-quality"
        "prompt": "regennasse Altstadtgasse in Hamburg bei Nacht, Laternenlicht, langsame Kamerafahrt nach vorn",
        "aspect_ratio": "16:9",
    },
    timeout=60,
).json()

# 2. Videoerzeugung ist asynchron — per Job-ID pollen, bis sie fertig ist.
while True:
    r = requests.get(
        f"https://api.kunavo.com/v1/videos/{job['id']}", headers=H, timeout=30
    ).json()
    if r["status"] in ("completed", "failed"):
        break
    time.sleep(5)

print(r["output"]["url"] if r["status"] == "completed" else r["error"])

Failed requests are not charged. Generating again because the result is not satisfactory, however, is a successful generation and is charged. Response format, image-to-video, and webhooks are covered in the video API documentation (in English).

Paying from Germany

Checkout runs through Stripe: cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, including debit cards), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link. SEPA Direct Debit is not offered; a debit card linked to a checking account works normally. Prepaid balance with a $10 minimum top-up, no subscription, and the balance never expires.

To be candid — when this path is not suitable

Through the gateway, you can get started without a Google billing account and without a Cloud project, but you use shared capacity instead of your own project quota. Anyone operating at a scale that requires a guaranteed quota or a contractual SLA should go directly to Google — this page cannot replace that and does not claim to.

The detailed English version is in the Veo 3 API Guide; the comparison with the other video models is in the Text-to-Video API guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Veo 3 cost?

Veo 3 has two pricing models. The subscription (Google AI Pro / Ultra with Flow credits) is a fixed monthly fee, and generation is covered by the month’s credits. Through the API, you pay per clip: on Kunavo, Veo 3.1 Lite costs $0.18+, Veo 3.1 Fast $0.36+, and Veo 3.1 Quality $1.60+ per clip (minimum price, at 720p). No monthly fee, no minimum spend.

Is the subscription or API for Veo 3 better value?

That depends on the number of clips per month. The calculation is a single division: monthly fee (in US dollars) ÷ price per clip = break-even number of clips. In months with fewer clips, the API is cheaper; anyone who consistently generates more every month gets better value from the subscription credits. If the subscription credits cover fewer clips than the break-even point, the API is cheaper in every case.

Does the Veo 3 API work without a Google Cloud project?

Yes, through an OpenAI-compatible gateway: no Google billing account, no project, and a single key. The price is shared capacity instead of your own project quota. Anyone who needs a guaranteed quota or a contractual SLA should go directly to Google.

What is the difference between Veo 3 Lite, Fast, and Quality?

Speed, image quality, and price per clip. Lite is the most affordable tier for drafts and high-volume testing, Fast for normal results, and Quality for the final version. The least expensive approach is to refine the prompt with Lite and render the approved prompt only once with Quality — the difference between $0.18+ and $1.60+ is exactly the cost of your attempts.

Does the API deliver the video immediately?

No. Video generation is an asynchronous job: POST /v1/videos first returns a job ID, then you query GET /v1/videos/{id} until the status is completed or failed. Unlike text models, there is no single response, so the code separates submission and retrieval.

Are failed requests charged?

On Kunavo, failed requests are not charged. If you generate again because you do not like the result, however, that is a successful generation, and each one is charged. That is why we recommend using the cheapest tier while refining the prompt.

How can I pay from Germany?

Through Stripe Checkout: cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, including debit cards), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link. SEPA Direct Debit is not offered; a debit card linked to a checking account works normally. It is a prepaid balance with a $10 minimum top-up, and the balance never expires.
