Where AI/ML API fits
Breadth. AI/ML API's pricing page lists more than a thousand models — open-weight chat models, image, video, audio and embedding models from many vendors — where Kunavo curates the frontier Claude and GPT set plus a short list of media models. It also takes PayPal, which Kunavo does not, and offers Enterprise plans with dedicated servers and custom models. If the model you need is outside Kunavo's catalog, or your team pays through PayPal, AI/ML API is the more direct fit.
Where Kunavo wins
Three places. (1) Price on the frontier models — most of Kunavo's Claude and GPT catalog is listed under the provider's official rate, and every model's per-1M-token price is on /pricing, so you can check the gap before you top up. (2) A smaller first step with no billing surprises — $10 to start instead of $20, and a call that fails with a 4xx or 5xx is never billed, wherever the failure came from. (3) Stripe-native local payments — Apple Pay, Pix, Alipay, WeChat Pay, Link and Cash App Pay, with Stripe showing the amount in the buyer's currency. The Anthropic Messages API is native too (/v1/messages, with cache_control and extended thinking), so the Anthropic SDK and Claude Code work unchanged.
How to pick
Pick AI/ML API if you need models beyond the frontier Claude and GPT set, want to pay with PayPal, or need dedicated Enterprise capacity. Pick Kunavo if your spend sits on Claude and GPT and you want those under the official price, want to start with $10 and never pay for a failed call, or serve buyers who pay with local rails like Pix, Alipay or WeChat Pay. Both are prepaid with no subscription, so trying either costs one small top-up.
How you pay: AI/ML API vs Kunavo
Both sides here are self-serve wallets, so the question worth asking is which wallet your money can actually reach. Kunavo's checkout is Stripe-native, so the list follows the buyer rather than our billing country, and every method tops up the same prepaid API balance. Everywhere Stripe reaches: cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, JCB, UnionPay); everywhere except India, also Link and, on devices where they are set up, Apple Pay or Google Pay. In the United States: Cash App Pay, Klarna, Afterpay, ACH bank debit (3–5 business days to clear) and crypto (stablecoins), plus Affirm on top-ups of $100 and up and Zip on top-ups of $100 to $1,500. Elsewhere the local rail appears with the local currency: Alipay and WeChat Pay in mainland China; KakaoPay, Naver Pay, PAYCO, Samsung Pay and Korean domestic cards in South Korea; UPI in India; Pix in Brazil; iDEAL in the Netherlands, Bancontact in Belgium, EPS in Austria, MB WAY in Portugal, Satispay in Italy; BLIK in Poland; Bacs Direct Debit in the UK (a few business days to clear); and Pay by Bank for buyers in the UK, Ireland and Finland. Stripe converts the dollar amount into local currency on the checkout page, so nobody has to hunt for a card cleared for international purchases; its rate includes a 2–4% conversion fee, which paying in dollars avoids. AI/ML API's help centre lists credit and debit cards, PayPal and cryptocurrency, and refuses prepaid and gift cards. Crypto and PayPal do cover part of the same ground Pix and WeChat Pay cover, but with more steps in between: acquire the coin, pay the network fee, carry the exchange rate yourself. A Pix QR code already denominated in reais does the same job with none of that.
