This guide answers the most common questions about integrating the Claude API in Taiwan: the price difference compared with Anthropic’s official rates, measured latency from Taipei, whether Taiwanese credit cards can be used, terms of sale, and how to migrate from the OpenAI SDK with a one-line change.
Make your first API call in 5 seconds
Kunavo is fully compatible with the OpenAI wire protocol. If you already use the OpenAI SDK, migration requires only a one-line change in base_url. Python example:
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(
api_key="sk-kn-...",
base_url="https://api.kunavo.com/v1", # 只要改這一行
)
resp = client.chat.completions.create(
model="claude-sonnet-4-6",
messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "用繁體中文跟我打招呼"}],
)
print(resp.choices[0].message.content)The Node.js / TypeScript version is the same:
import OpenAI from "openai";
const client = new OpenAI({
apiKey: process.env.KUNAVO_API_KEY!,
baseURL: "https://api.kunavo.com/v1",
});
const resp = await client.chat.completions.create({
model: "claude-opus-4-7",
messages: [{ role: "user", content: "請推薦台北今天的午餐" }],
});
console.log(resp.choices[0].message.content);Sign up for free, top up from $10, pay as you go, and your balance never expires—enough to try Claude Opus 4.7, Sonnet 4.6, and Haiku 4.5.
How much cheaper is it than Anthropic’s official pricing?
Claude models on Kunavo cost 30% less than Anthropic’s official prices (depending on the model). Claude Sonnet 4.6 costs $3.00 input and $15.00 output per 1M tokens officially; on Kunavo, it costs $2.10 input and $10.50 output (30% off). With prompt caching, cache reads are charged at 10% of the input price, so rereads effectively cost $0.21 per 1M tokens. Full pricing is listed at /pricing.
What determines latency from Taipei?
Kunavo’s entry point is an anycast edge network, where TLS terminates at the nearest node; the gateway itself runs in a single US-East region (Ashburn, Virginia). The edge shortens the TLS handshake round trip, not the leg across the Pacific—from Taipei, round-trip time is primarily determined by the physical distance to the US East Coast, plus the model’s own inference time. A direct call to Anthropic’s us-east-1 takes the same route, so neither path can avoid that distance. Streaming uses an SSE pass-through implementation, providing a time-to-first-token on par with a direct call to the provider; we add no caching or batching delay.
Payment methods—can Taiwanese credit cards be used?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Users in Taiwan can use:
- Credit / debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB
- Apple Pay, Google Pay (Chrome / Android if already set up), Link (one-click checkout)
Prices are listed in US dollars; Stripe automatically converts them to New Taiwan dollars at checkout, and this exchange rate includes a 2–4% conversion fee paid by the payer (there is no fee when paying directly in US dollars; Stripe Adaptive Pricing documentation, accessed on 2026-10-03). The minimum top-up is $10 US dollars (approximately NT$320). We do not use a subscription model; this is prepaid credit, the balance never expires, and if the account is deactivated, the remaining amount can still be refunded to the original payment method.
Almost all credit cards issued in Taiwan can be added directly, unless your card issuer has set it to “block overseas transactions”—you’ll need to disable that setting in your bank’s app first. LINE Pay and JKO Pay cannot currently be linked directly, but linking the underlying credit card works.
Notes on using Traditional Chinese
Claude handles Traditional Chinese with the same quality as English. However, Chinese uses somewhat more tokens than English (about 0.5–0.8 tokens per Chinese character, compared with about 0.25 tokens per English letter), so remember to account for this when estimating costs.
To ensure responses use Traditional Chinese rather than Simplified Chinese, specify it explicitly in the system prompt:
“You are a customer service representative in Taiwan. All responses must use Traditional Chinese and wording commonly used in Taiwan (for example, ‘video,’ ‘save,’ and ‘log in’). Be polite and concise.”
Which Claude model should you choose?
- Claude Opus 4.7 — The strongest reasoning. Suitable for complex tasks, long-context summarization, and writing code.
- Claude Sonnet 4.6 — A balance of price and capability. The model most widely used by Taiwanese startups. Often used for customer support bots, content generation, and an agent’s main workflow.
- Claude Haiku 4.5 — Fast and inexpensive. Suitable for classification, filtering, simple summaries, and agent preprocessing. About one-tenth the cost of Sonnet.
